Xtreme Long Drive champion Jim Waldron teaches you to hit longer and straighter drives. By learning the fundamentals, you will not only have enough control to play the course with more success but hit BOMBS like a world long drive champion.
Setup For Success
The first things Coach Jim Waldron looks for at the Tour Striker Golf Academy is bad grips and setup conditions. Once you learn these basics, you'll be hitting longer and straighter drives.
Consistency Starts with Routine
Good players are effective drivers of the ball because they have a consistent routine. Developing a consistent routine will allow you to hit lower scores by giving you something to fall back on in stressful situations.
Fix Your Slice
Hitting a slice means hitting the ball to the left. If your setup looks like you’re going to hit a slice… You’re probably going to hit a slice. The key is to be conscious of what setting up for a slice looks like. Make sure the ball isn’t too far forward in your stance and your shoulders stay square to the ball.
Swing Radius
Having a “longer” radius is beneficial because you can generate more speed. If you can keep the radius nice and long as you unwind and turn, you can create more opportunities to increase speed at the bottom of your swing.
Tee Height Misconceptions
Don’t overthink your tee height! The purpose of a tee is to help you match the face of the driver to the ball so you can hit up on the ball. The best tee height is the height that is most comfortable for you. Just make sure the tee is high enough to get the face of the club on the ball.
Attack Angle vs. Dynamic Loft
Attack angle and dynamic loft are similar but effect the golf ball in different ways. Think of the attack angle as how much the sweet spot is moving up or down. The attack angle allows you to hit up on a golf ball even if you have a short tee. The dynamic loft is all about how much loft the middle of your club face has at impact. You can hit down on a golf ball but still present a lot of loft.
The Waldron Method
Your golf swing doesn’t have to be complicated. Jim Waldron takes you through how he blends the traditional positions in the backswing to create “feels”.
Find Your Club Path
Fix your lawn mower swing by finding your club path! Once you find your club path, you’re primed for more speed in your downswing.
Backswing to Downswing
Jim Waldron breaks down transitioning from your backswing into your downswing. PRO-TIP….Gain a little extra speed by lifting and pressing down your lead foot.
Delivery Zone
The delivery zone is the split second of time you have to go from your downswing to getting your club square to the ball. You know your club isn’t square if you moonwalk away from the ball!
Understanding Impact
The key word for impact is UP. You don’t want to hit down on the golf ball. You want the club to be traveling up as you make contact with the golf ball.
Put it All Together
If you want to hit the ball faster and farther, you can’t be focusing on 8 different things as you swing your club. Understand all the different parts of the swing first so that you can focus on hitting BOMBS.
